A silver-mounted Syrian khanjar, 19th century
Double-edged, slightly curved blade of wootz Damascus steel with a central ridge on both sides. Silver-mounted hilt of ebonized wood, the pommel set with four silver-framed turquoises and a central garnet. Leather-covered wood scabbard with geometrically punched decoration on the obverse and silver chape. Length 31.5 cm.
