Syamatara, or 'Green Tara', is particularly venerated in Tibet. She is the incarnation of the Nepalese Princess Bhrkuti, the wife of the first Tibetan Buddhist king.

These two fine Tibetan bronzes appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow on Sunday 27th February 2022,when they were brought in by the owner, and received high praise.
They have a family provenance to the owner's grandfather, Yang Yong Tai, a Chinese Provincial Governor in the 1930s,who received them as a diplomatic gift from a Tibetan emissary.
There is a tragic story attached to these pieces, for Yang Yong Tai was assassinated in 1936 in Hankow, by agents of Chiang Kai Shek.
