A small late Victorian silver tea caddy, of oblong serpentine form with a foliate and lobed banded border around the base rim, surmounted by twin opposed vacant shield cartouches surrounded by floral and foliate motifs, the oblong slightly domed hinged lid with carved wood finial with ball terminal. Hallmarked Nathan & Hayes (George Nathan & Ridley Hayes), Birmingham 1888. Height measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), gross weight 5.4 ozt (170 grams). In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Maker's mark slightly rubbed, other hallmarks clear and legible, no visible partial hallmarks to the lid.
