A southern German boy's wheellock rifle, circa 1720

An earlier, octagonal to round barrel with six grooves, calibre 11 mm. Dovetailed sights. On the underside of the barrel the mark of the Danner family of gun smiths from Nuremberg. Probably the "recycled" barrel of a wheellock pistol from the 17th century. The breech plug absent. Delicate lock with internal wheel. Trigger with set trigger. Fullstock of beautifully grained Tuja wood with inlays of cut and blackened bone. Patchbox with sliding cover. Cheekpiece with an oval mother-of-pearl inlay. A later ramrod with a dark horn tip. Length 69.5 cm.Condition: II
