A southern German wheellock rifle with fine bone

Octagonal barrel slightly indented in the middle, with eight-groove rifled bore in 16 mm calibre. Dovetailed sights of brass and iron. At the breech struck mark with crossed swords and monogram "ER", preceded by a brass-lined circle. Letter "P" struck on the side of the barrel. Lock with internal wheel and screw-mounted brass appliqué with engraving possibly of later date. Spring-mounted pan cover with release lever. Adjustable set trigger. Walnut full stock (butt slightly worm-ridden) with superb, finely engraved and blackened inlays of bone. On the cheek piece standing deer with two does. Patch box with lid of engraved bone. Iron trigger guard, butt cap of horn. Original ramrod with bone tip and threaded iron sleeve. Length 124 cm.
