A suit of black and white cavalry armour, assembled from old components, Nuremberg, circa 1560 - 1600The skull of the burgonet forged in one piece with a tall comb. The peak made in one piece with a turned edge, stamped with the Nuremberg proof mark. A brass plume socket riveted at the nape. Hinged cheek protectors, each with five pierced openings for hearing, the right cheek piece a modern replacement. The riveted neck guard with a turned edge. Gorget with hammered linear ornaments and Nuremberg proof mark, the articulated neck guard with a prominent roped and turned flange. Both pauldrons sliding on four lames, still attached. The long gauntlets with metacarpi sliding on five lames and distinctly ribbed and roped knuckle guards. Finger defences with overlapping scales, the thumb plates attached (one is loose). Fullered cuffs with finely turned and roped edges. Breastplate with a prominent ridge, drawn out to a slight central point. Hammered linear ornaments, a wavy pattern (running dog) chased along the edges. The arm gussets and the upper edge with a pronounced, roped flange struck inwards. The unassociated backplate with roped and turned flanges. The adjustable cuisses sliding on ten lames, the poleyns without lateral wings. The rivets lavishly embellished with brass rosettes. The leather lining damaged and incomplete. Height approx. 120 cm.Condition: II -
