A velvet and verdure tapestry upholstered knole sofa

[ translate ]

A velvet and verdure tapestry upholstered knole sofa, the tapestry panels late 17th century, the remainder 20th century, of typical form, 120cm high, 180cm wide, 95cm deep

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips, splits and losses. Front legs look to be Victorian but may be associated from an earlier piece. Legs and castors showing damage and wear from weight of pieces- one castor wheel detached and with deformation to others. Some variance in colour of upholstery from sunlight exposure and typical pulling to older tapestry fragment sections There are various old repairs to the tapestry elements including various areas of stitching to re-join elements. This includes the apparent horizontal line running along the tapestry of the back where elements of the tapestry have apparently become seperated but have been stitched to bring together. In various areas of stitching there remains a small gap between elements. See additional images. In one area of the central tapestry panel of the back, where the panel is hidden behind the seat cushion, there is no tapestry element there but an alternate panel of material sewn in (see additional images) The springing of the seat (beneath the horse hair filled seat cushion) seems to be in fair order and is firm. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition.
