A very rare Great War M.M. awarded to Battery Quartermaster L. Dickson, Motor Machine Gun Service, later Machine Gun Corps (Heavy Brigade) and Tank Corps - who was wounded in action with 'D' Battalion in April 1917

Lionel Dickson was born in 1891 and was a fitted by trade, living in West Kilburn, London at the outbreak of the Great War. Enlisting into the Motor Machine Gun Service in November 1914, Dickson landed in France in March 1915 and was promoted Sergeant by June 1915. Having added the M.M. to his laurels by the following Autumn, he was posted to the Machine Gun Corps (Heavy Branch), serving with 'D' Battalion from November 1916. He was wounded in action on 23 April 1917, his fingers being treated at No. 99 Field Ambulance. This was likely during the opening of the Battle of Arras and Dickson, stoic as ever, remained at duty. Transferred to the Tank Corps as Company Quartermaster-Sergeant (No. 200698), his M.M. was finally posted to him in March 1919.
