This view depicts the Battle of Quebec during the French and Indian War. The Battle of Quebec was a pivotal battle between the British and French that began on September 13, 1759. The British succeeded in capturing Quebec City and eventually driving the French out of most of eastern North America. Begun on September 13, 1759, British forces launched an assault by landing their ships on the Plains of Abraham outside the heavily defended city. Both the French leader, the Marquis de Montcalm, and the British leader, General James Wolfe, died in the battle that followed.
