A wonderful Apulian red-figure bell krater
A wonderful Apulian red-figure bell krater, 4th Century BC. A gorgeous piece, one side features a striding nude satyr who wears a beaded harness and supports a wineskin over his left shoulder; his head turned back. His features are skillfully rendered in fine style. The opposing side depicts heavily robed female with diadem, her features well-executed. Both scenes are flanked by a palmette motif which is centered beneath the handles. 6 1/2 x 6 1/4 in (16.5 x 15.7 cm). Intact and superb thus very desirable! Ex Toronto private collection, believed to have been acquired from Rupert Wace Ancient Art, New York.
