A yatagan with walrus grips, Balkans, ca. 1850/60
Older, slightly curved, single-edged blade, lightly pitted toward the head. Both sides lavishly decorated with silver inlays and a date inscription “1230” (= 1814). Brass ferrule and grip straps with filigree decor and set with gemstones, intact walrus ivory scales. Leather-covered wooden scabbard (defects) with simple tinplate mountings. Length 78 cm.
