A112 1968
Design colour drawing by Centro Stile Fiat. Tempera on cardboard. Final proposal. 3/4 front view. Frame size:
19.68 x 25.59 in.
In the second half of the Sixties, FIAT was faced with the worrying penetration in the Italian market of the Mini, which enjoyed considerable sales success among young people and, above all, among female users. Dante Giacosa decided to propose, through the subsidiary Autobianchi, a small car, with an elegant appearance and equipped with modern front-wheel drive. The Autobianchi A112 was presented in 1969 at the Turin Motor Show, obtaining enthusiastic acclaim, for some years the production failed to satisfy a substantial and constantly growing demand. The "A112" in its long career underwent many restyling and improvements, which gave rise to eight successive series, during the 17 years of the production period.
