'ABD AL-RAHMAN JAMI (D.1492), FATIHAT AL-SHABAB, (‘THE FIRST DIVAN’), PERSIA, SHIRAZ, SAFAVID, DATED 948 AH/1541 AD

Persian manuscript on polished paper, 320 leaves plus 2 fly-leaves, 15 lines to the page written horizontally in neat nasta'liq script in black ink, catchwords, ruled in colours and gold, double page illuminated frontispiece decorated in blue and gold with polychrome flowers, f.66b with an illuminated headpiece of interlacing vines and cloud bands, with six miniatures, gilt-stamped morocco binding with worn filigree doublures

24.7 by 15.5cm.

Condition Report:
In generally good overall condition, wear to binding and losses to doublure filigree-work, opening and closing leaves thumbed with some water-staining to margins, pages generally clean and paper polished, illustrations with vivid colours and bright gold, opening quire coming loose from binding requiring consolidation, as viewed.
