A THATCHED SHED IN A HILLY REGION: A WOODCUTTER AND RESTING PEASANTS IN THE FOREGROUND

Pen and brown ink and wash over black chalk, heightened with partially oxidized white heightening;
dated in brown ink, lower centre: 1650 and bears old attribution in black chalk, lower right: A. Bloemaert.
223 by 315 mm; 8⅝ by 12½ in

Condition Report:
Hinge mounted in two places along the upper edge to a modern card backing and subsequently hinged to a modern cream mount. There is some minor foxing to areas of the sheet and some old, minor abrasions to the extremities. There is an old crease to the lower right corner and some slight oxidization to parts of the white heightening. Otherwise this work remains in good overall condition with the combination of media still relatively fresh and the image strong. Sold unframed.
