(ADLER, NATHAN).
Ma’aseh Ta’atu’im [“Act of Deception” - vehement polemic against R. Nathan Adler]. Anonymous (Leib Wetzlar).

First Edition.
pp. 39, (1). Browned. Recent marbled boards. 12mo. Vinograd, Frankfurt 558.
Czestechow (i.e Frankfurt a/Main): n.p. 1789

R. Nathan Adler (1741-1800) was a German Kabbalist and famously, the teacher of the Chasam Sofer. Based in Frankfurt, he was the subject of controversy due to his uncommon mystical behaviors and the development of a devoted following. Ultimately, things came to a head in 1789 when - partially due to the influence of this anonymous screed - the Rabbi was formally expelled from Frankfurt. See R. Elior, Rabbi Nathan Adler of Frankfurt and the Controversy Surrounding Him, in: Studia Judaica (13) esp. p. 226.
