Heading:
Author:
Title: ADVENTURES INTO DARKNESS No. 14
Place Published:
Publisher:Standard [Indicia: Visual Editions, Inc.]
Date Published: June, 1954
Description:

VG (4.0). Small nick to top spine, light spine stress, a few small edge nicks, small color rub to right edge of front cover, small creases to corners, top staple possibly replaced, distributor's mark ("N/27/54") to "D" in "DARKNESS." Off-white pages. Cover: Ross Andru? Art: Rocco Mastroserio, Mike Roy, George Roussos, Gene Fawcette. Final issue. GPAnalysis: A 4.0 sold for $226 in December 2019.

Going overboard: Spurred by soaring sales, publishers pushed the boundaries of good taste too far, too fast, until public pressure and the Comics Code killed the horror craze. Dozens of publishers, including Standard, soon submerged forever.

"ADVENTURES INTO DARKNESS dies with the 14th issue: a comic book completely unworthy of note except for a really nice cover showing a shipwreck victim adrift while a lifeboat full of — what else? — animated skeletons approach, offering salvation of a dubious sort." — George Suarez, Tales To Terrible To Tell #7. NEC: 1992-93, p. 37.

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's Spring 2022 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Find out why PBA is the new fan-fave of comics auctioneers. "This is some of the best commentary I've yet seen on the quality of the content of comic books... Priceless." — R. Crumb.
