Title: ADVENTURES INTO DARKNESS No. 7
Place Published:
Publisher:Standard [Indicia: Visual Editions, Inc.]
Date Published: December, 1952
Description:

VG (4.0). Spine stress, ¼" tear to bottom edge of back cover. RESTORED: 1½" sealed tear to top right edge of front cover. Off-white pages. Cover: Jack Katz. Art: Mike Sekowsky, Nick Cardy, Art Saaf, Jack Katz, Charles Miller. GPAnalysis: No Purple Label sales. A Blue Label 4.0 sold for $630 in February 2021.

In Jack Katz's "Bride of Death," a mad scientist brings a dead lady back to life in order to sexually molest her. She struggles with the brute and he accidentally kills her again. When he tries to resurrect her a second time, her corpse strangles him to death in a steely embrace due to rigor mortis — a plot twist that Standard used again in The Unseen #15's "Date with a Corpse" (July 1954). Astute readers will observe that Standard buried this unsavory story in the middle of the mag, far from the first-page blurb intended to reassure concerned parents: "LOOK FOR THIS BANNER WHEN YOU BUY A COMIC MAGAZINE / IT IS YOUR GUARANTEE OF WHOLESOME READING."

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's Spring 2022 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Find out why PBA is the new fan-fave of comics auctioneers. "This is some of the best commentary I've yet seen on the quality of the content of comic books... Priceless." — R. Crumb.
