Title: ADVENTURES INTO WEIRD WORLDS No. 13
Place Published:
Publisher:Atlas [Indicia: Animirth Comics, Inc.]
Date Published: December, 1952
Description:

VG- (3.5). Inobtrusive 1" split to spine above bottom staple, mild spine stress, light edgewear including 2 tiny chips (the biggest is 2mm), very faint residue apparent on "RD" in "WEIRD" if viewed in raking light, a few light fingermarks to page margins, centerfold loose. Cream to off-white pages. Professionally cleaned and pressed by Comics In A Flash. If not for loose centerfold would grade 4.5, perhaps 5.0. Cover: Bill Everett. Scripts: Stan Lee, uncredited others. Art: Carmine Infantino, Don Rico, Don Perlin, Jerry Robinson. GPAnalysis: A 3.5 sold for $153 in June 2021.

Traditional terror tales, complete with a mad scientist animating a creature with electricity ("IT'S ALIVE!"), angry villagers with pitchforks, a red devil with horns and goatee, African idol-worshippers who call every white guy "Bwana," etc. Plus: Insecurity-inducing ads targeting sad-sack shlemiels of all ages, including one in which a bag-of-bones boy is dissed by curvy cuties ("There's that skinny scarecrow Roger. Let's pass him by!"), and one in which a fat geezer regains his moxie thanks to a male girdle ("I feel like a kid again — It's GREAT!").

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
