ALESSANDRO MAGNASCO, CALLED LISSANDRINO | NUNS MAKING WICKER FLASKS IN AN INTERIOR

[ translate ]

Property of a New York Private Collector
ALESSANDRO MAGNASCO, CALLED LISSANDRINO
Genoa 1667 - 1749
NUNS MAKING WICKER FLASKS IN AN INTERIOR

oil on canvas
24¾ by 18 in.; 61 by 45.7 cm.

Condition Report:
The canvas is lined and stable on its stretcher. The image reads well despite a slightly darkened varnish. A small dot of repair is visible as an inconsistency to the canvas texture at the upper left. Some frame abrasion is visible on all 4 edges but is not distracting. Under UV inspection, a thick varnish is difficult to read through, but an earlier campaign of small retouches seems to be underneath. More recent retouching is obscured. Offered in a decoratively painted black and giltwood frame.

In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Provenance:
Arthur Steiner, Vienna;

From whom acquired by Attilio Steffanoni, 1912, for 5000 lire;

Private Collection, Berlin, 1922 (Per Ferri);

Dr. Victor Bloch, Vienna;

By whom sold, Gilhofer & Ranschburg, Lucerne, 30 November 1934, lot 22;
