ALEXANDRE-GABRIEL DECAMPS | IN THE SHADE OF THE COURTYARD

[ translate ]

ALEXANDRE-GABRIEL DECAMPS
French
1803 - 1860
IN THE SHADE OF THE COURTYARD

signed D.C. (lower left)
oil on canvas
32 by 39¼ in.
81.3 by 99.7 cm

Condition Report:
Not examined out of the frame. Lined. The surface presents well with bright colors. Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly and in a streaky manner, which somewhat impedes a review of the surface. Varnish remains more heavily over the artist's initials. Scattered fine dashes and pin dots of retouching in the foreground. There is a 1/4 inch area of inpainting at upper left; a 2 inch vertical fine repair at center left; and some fine dashed retouches along the right upper edge. There appears to be older, brushier inpainting along the left, right lower and right edges.

In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
