Born in Deerfield, Massachusetts, Alfred Russel Fuller moved to La Jolla, California, in the 1930s, where he studied under landscape painter Roi Clarkson Colman. In the 1940s, he settled in Maine, where he would spend the rest of his life. He frequently painted scenes of Monhegan Island and Port Clyde, Maine.
