ALFRED WALLIS | ANGLED SCHOONER NEAR PENZANCE HARBOUR

[ translate ]

ALFRED WALLIS
1855-1942
ANGLED SCHOONER NEAR PENZANCE HARBOUR

oil and pencil on card
15 by 21cm.; 6 by 8¼in.

Condition Report:
Unexamined out of the frame. The card is floated within the frame and appears to be adhered to the backing board. The lower, left and upper edges are unevenly cut, and there is some rounding to all four corners in keeping with the Artist's intentions. There are a couple of nicks to the edges, notably one dent in the centre of the upper edge. There is a large crease running vertically through the right hand section of the work, this appears to be historic and possibly intrinsic to the card. There are some very fine lines craquelure to the light pigments at the left hand edge, however these are only visible upon extremely close inspection. This excepting the work appears to be in very good overall condition.

Inspection under ultra violet light reveals no obvious signs of retouching.

The card is float mounted and held behind glass within a two-stage distressed wooden frame.
