Map of the world. Neerland, Oliver, Norwegian artist and cartographer, (1881-1960). A highly distinctive coloured and lithographed world map (image map) created by Norwegian artist Oliver Neerland in 1949, a few years after the end of World War II. Published by Norstedt & Söner, Stockholm, 1949. The map shows North America, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa and is filled with figurative scenes, historical and fictional: monuments, art, airplanes, ships, etc. The western half of the world bathes in light, the eastern one with the Soviets is shrouded in obscurity - a kind of allegory of the state of the world. The map measures approx. 130 cm. x 190 cm. Done on paper and promoted on fabric. Rolled with metal tubing and metal buckles at each end.
