A.M. Cassandre (Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron) 1901–1968 Wagon-Bar vintage poster
Caption Brief: The restaurant car was meant to be considered on par with the sleeping car an expression of luxury and convenience given to the passenger. Everything from the table linens to the silverware to the food itself was of the highest quality Christofle, Limoges, and white-gloved waitstaff were commonly seen, if not expected. The allure of these moving restaurants was so great that pamphlets were produced promoting Christmas and other holidays in the train’s dining car. It also reflects newfound interest in photomontage.
