Although Amedeo Gennarelli was born in Naples, he soon moved to Paris, where he remained active and became internationally known, above all through the platform provided by his participation in the Salon des Artistes Français, where he took part from 1913 to 1936. He was a pupil of Francesco Jerace, a painter and sculptor from Naples, and was inspired by Rodin's sculpture. Gennareli was known for his beautiful female nudes, which he produced using different materials: marble, terracotta, bronze, and for his Art Deco bronzes with a Symbolist flavour, where he specialised in the use of sfumattos. During his lifetime he received many medals and honours.
