Biography of Marc Taloff - history of the drawing:
Marc V. Talov (1892-1969) jew poet and writer from Odessa changed his name after his conversion to Catholicism in Mark -Marija Ljudovik. He published his first collection of poems in 1912 in Odessa.
Marc Taloff (according to the French phonetic translation of his name) arrived in Paris in 1913 and remained there until 1922, when he came back to Russia. The presence of young people from Russia in Paris was particularly large, of about 20,000 before the Great War. Amedeo Modigliani met him immediately upon his arrival, but it was not casual, it happened during the nights of Russian poetry, attended by many personalities of the world of culture. Taloff built a real friendship with Modigliani in 1919, just in conjunction with the birth of the two numerous anti-bolshevik communities. Modigliani made many portraits of the poet, who discovered the work of Mallarmé, thanks to the Italian painter.
