Place Published:
Publisher:Magazine Enterprises [Indicia: Magazine Enterprises]
Date Published: 19480
Description:

F/VF (7.0). COSMIC AEROPLANE PEDIGREE. Off-white pages. Gorgeous mag, conservatively graded, compromised only by a slight curve to the spine too mild to be called spine roll, and a light bump to the bottom spine. Pressable by a pro to anywhere from 8.5 to 9.6. Numerous penciled check marks throughout, as required by pedigree. Cover: Bob Powell. Art: Bob Powell (all stories). GPAnalysis: Only two reported sales in any grade: A 4.5 sold for $244 in January 2021, and a 7.5 sold for $528 in April 2020.

The Cosmic Aeroplane collection was amassed by an art teacher who allegedly used his comics as classroom aids (most C.A. comics are too high-grade to have been manhandled by students, though, and it's unlikely the school board would have approved such a curriculum). Cosmic Aeroplane books are identifiable by penciled check marks scattered in the margins, strange glyphs of the teacher's preoccupation with sexy comic book gals. It's said that the teacher almost exclusively marked panels featuring attractive women, which is indeed the case for this mag.

Perfect slab fodder — what could be more fortuitous than a Cosmic Aeroplane airplane cover?

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
