AMERICAN BUFFALO POTTERY RUBAIYAT RESTAURANT CERAMIC ARTICLES, LOT OF TWO, comprising a plate with central maroon and black design of a man and woman standing beneath a tree with setting sun in background and "A book of Verse / A jug of Wine / A loaf of Bread / And thou" printed around center with a black border having an intricate gilt decoration and "R" at top, and a 4 3/8" D ashtray having gilt printed "The Rubaiyat / BUFFALO" on front. Printed marks "MADE ESPECIALLY / FOR / CHARLES J. CUARINO / RUBIAYAT / BUFFALO / CHINA." and "BUFFALO / CHINA / K.E.O." Buffalo Pottery Company, Buffalo, New York. Circa 1929.
Condition: Excellent undamaged condition, except for a few minor scattered scratches.

Provenance: From the estate of Holton Rosenquist, Bradford, IL.Catalogue Note: Named after a famous poem "The Rubaiyat" by the 12th century Persian polymath, Omar Khayyam. According to Mr. David Rosenquist, the restaurant was lavishly decorated in opulent Persian d�cor and rumor has it that it may have been underwritten by the Buffalo mob. It opened in 1929, a few weeks prior to the Wall Street market crash and permanently closed shortly thereafter, having been in business for only about one month.
