AMERICAN CREWEL-WORK EMBROIDERED PICTURE, wool on linen, depicting a bouquet of flowers with a tied ribbon around the stems, two sides having a scrolled foliate border, on a pine stretcher. Housed under glass in a period, possibly original gilt-wood molded frame. Possibly Virginia. Fourth quarter 18th century. 18" x 18" sight, 20 1/2" x 20 1/2" OA.
Fair to good visual condition with scattered holes and losses, embroidery thread with fading/fugitive color, linen with toning, some stains, repairs, and patches to the back, frame with wear, cracks/hairlines, losses to gilt, flakes, and chips. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: From an important Virginia private collection.
