AMERICAN DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE PITCHER, lead-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, cylindrical form having slightly flaring neck with incised ring below the rim, four incised shoulder rings, strap handle with lower thumbprint terminal, heavy beaded foot, and clamshell-form cut-off lines under base with incised "8". Decorated with manganese splotches around body and on handle. Second half 19th century.
Condition: Good as-found condition, moderate roughness to rim, exterior-only hairline flanking spout, body with three small spots of glaze exfoliation, needs cleaning.
Size: 10" H, 4 1/2" D rim, 6" D base.
