AMERICAN DECORATED STONEWARE JUGS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each with beehive form, comprising one approximately one-gallon capacity, stamped "E.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER MASS." with strap handle, featuring slip-trailed cobalt stylized floral decoration to front, additional brushed cobalt at handle terminal, and one example likely made at the Fulper Pottery in New Jersey, "2" gallon capacity mark, strap handle, featuring slip-trailed and brushed cobalt bird decoration to front. Norton Pottery, Worcester, MA; Fulper Pottery Company, Flemington, NJ. Second half 19th century.
Condition: Both in excellent condition; Norton example having moderate flake to handle and minute flakes to body and mouth edge; bird example having a few glaze flakes with very light hairline near base and white paint drip below handle. Firing imperfections, including kiln drips and kisses, as made.
