Each with the owners name.

If this volume is any indication then Seth P. Beers had a substantial library. Spine title reads “Religious" volume 10. Tipped in hand written contents page— owner's name stamped on title of first sermon, signed on others; also signed inside front cover. The owner has separated these into six titles but the first 2 were issued together.

1&2. The trial of the spirits: a seasonable caution against spiritual delusion. By the Reverend Charles DAUBENY. Also, A companion for the book of common prayer containing an explanation of the service. By the Reverend John H Hobart. New Haven: printed by Oliver Steele and Co., 1809. 67, 102 p. Companion has separate title page.

3. A discourse, concerning the inventions of men in the worship of God. By the right Reverend Dr. William King, late lord bishop of Londonderry. First American from the fourth English edition. Published by the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge. New Haven: printed and sold by Walter and Steele, 1811. 153 pages; Contents printed at end.

4. (Tracts) No. 1. The youth repository of Christian knowledge. Lesson 1- 10. “Printed by Oliver Steele for the editor Henry Whitlock, New Haven, March 1813.” 36 page. No. 2., takes it to p. 60. No. 3 to p. 84. First three issues of this periodical. First three issues of this periodical.

5. A full length portrait of Calvinism, by an old-fashioned churchman. Second edition with additions and corrections. New York: printed and sold by T. & J. Swords, 1809. 55 p.

6. (Tract). A token for mourners. Abridged, with variations, from the treatise of the Reverend John Flavill. Track number 59. Boston: printed for the New England tract Society, by Nathaniel Willis, 1816. “second edition 6000 ".

Some toning, occasional foxing, and light wear but overall in good condition.

Likely provenance: Seth Preston Beers, the first child of Josiah Beers and Elizabeth Preston Beers, born on July 1, 1781 in Woodbury, Connecticut-- a few miles from where we found it. Beers attended attended Litchfield Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1805, and later served as CT state's attorney & a Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives. He died in 1863.
