Seymour and Oliver Ellsworth as members of the Pay Table Committee and John Lawrence as treasurer, 4 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches, docketed on verso and signed by Jesse Brown; horizontal fold, minimal wear. This order reads "Please to pay Mr. Jessee Brown twenty pounds to be in account of his service as post rider in the service of the state & charge the state." Brown was a military messenger for Connecticut for at least two years during the war.
