This receipt was signed by Captain Noah Webster (1722-1813), father of the famous lexicographer. He served as a captain in the Connecticut militia in 1777 and 1778. The receipt reads "Rec'd of Select Men of Hartford, three guns & 2 boxes for my company now ordered to the Peekskill."
