Acquired from the above at that sale.

Joseph Russell's father and son were pioneer whaling merchants of New Bedford from 1775. In 1837, Joseph Gray Russell was captain of the 895-ton Sheridan of the Dramatic Packet Ship Line on her first voyage. Later, Russell was a senior member of the China Trade firm Russell & Co.

Oil on canvas, old glue lining, 33" x 27". Framed 39" x 33".
