AN ANGLO-INDIAN CARVED HARDWOOD OCCASIONAL CAMEL TABLE
Possibly Gujarat, Western India, 1890 - 1920
Carved in the round in the shape of a camel, resting on an octagonal stepped pedestal carved in relief with foliate patterns, a rope-like decorative band, and hexagonal stellar motifs to the base, the realistically-carved camel with cushions, saddle, and rug on his back surmounted by a lobed top with plain central section surrounded by a profusely carved floral and foliate design with a gadrooned edge, to the back of the tabletop two elegantly carved lotus buds reminiscent of Indian architectural decorations and bulbous column finials, 72.5cm x 77cm x 33.5cm.
