AN ANNAMESE ENAMELED 'BIRDS AND BUTTERFLY' CHARGER
16th century
With rounded sides and lipped rim and short ring foot, painted in red and green enamels over a thin clear glaze, the interior decorated with five cartouches over 'wave' ground on the wall above a band of 'petal' motifs, a medallion of bird perching on flowering branches with a butterfly nearby, the exterior with repeated lotus lappets, the underside covered with a brown wash and unglazed.
