AN ARCHAIC BRONZE RITUAL VESSEL AND COVER, DING
EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY
東周 青銅三犧三足蓋鼎
the compressed globular body rising from three cabriole legs issuing from animal-masks to a tapering rim, set with upright loop handles, the body decorated with two registers of interlocking zoomorphic geometric scrolls, the domed cover cast with three recumbent buffaloes and centered on a loose ring handle

Condition Report:
The cover has loss to the head of one bull handle, minor nicks and small areas of casting flaws to the rim; one leg of the body is slightly miss-aligned and heavily covered with malachite encrustation and may possibly have been re-attached; overall light encrustation and rubbing resulting in some loss of definition to the bands of design.
