Copies were made throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and sculptors such as Antoine Coysevox were influenced by the antique version. Coysevox added a turtle to the base in his famous marble version which was made for the Tapis Vert in Versailles in 1686, and was paired with another marble also after the antique by Fremery of Arrotino.
