AN ENGLISH CULPEPER TYPE COMPOUND MONOCULAR MICROSCOPE, SECOND QUARTER 18TH CENTURY

with brass eye-piece and sliding cover, turned lignum vitae body covered with rayskin, raised on three brass legs with shaped stage above a concave hinged mirror, the octagonal base with drawer at the front fitted with various objectives, lenses and tweezers, in an oak pillar case with brass ring handle, a drawer at the base containing an ivory talc box, bone specimen slides, preparates - together with a Dutch handwritten listing - and some further utensils
microscope: 40cm. high, 1ft. 3¾in.

Condition Report:
In overall reasonable condition although probably not complete. There is a chip to the moulding of the case at the bottom edge, visible in the catalogue images. The microscope is detached from its base and a piece of moulding is loose. This is simply because the glue has dried out and would be easily repaired. There is a small chip to the threading of the lignum vitae eyepiece. Generally with old marks, chips and scratches throughout consistent with age. Gallery inspection recommended.
