AN ENGLISH JAPANNED CABINET INCORPORATING CHINESE LACQUER PANELS IN THE DOORS, EARLY 18TH CENTURY

on a George II Style Giltwood Stand, redecorated
height 63 in.; width 38 in.; depth 21 in.
160 cm; 96.5 cm; 53.3 cm

Condition Report:
Lacquer decoration in reasonably good condition overall, with minor scattered areas of losses, marks, abrasions, and some surface dust and craquelure. Areas of infill, overpainting and enhancement to pigments. Colours vibrant and highly decorative. Typical restored vertical age splits on sides of cabinet and horizontal age crack on the top, and some oxidation and rubbing to gilt metal handles and hinges, with a few pins lacking. Case with some old inactive worm holes and accompanying losses, mainly on top and lower proper right corner, which is lacking metal corner mount. Stand regilt, with usual scattered rubbing and small losses but generally gilding is in good condition. A few scuffs and chips to carved elements, and secion of carved foliate decoration from top of proper right back leg detached but present and can be re-fixed.
