AN ILLUMINATED MINIATURE QUR’AN IN FITTED BOX, PERSIA, QAJAR, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY

Arabic manuscript on paper, 218 leaves plus 2 fly-leaves, 20 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in black and gold, verses separated by gold and polychrome rosettes, surah headings in gold riqa' against a blue ground within cartouches, gold and polychrome verse markers in the margins, marginal texts in shikasteh within clouds against a gold ground, f.2b and 216b with a double-page spread of illumination consisting of a central lobed panel with gold naskh against a blue ground, f.3b and 4a with an illuminated frontispiece, in lacquer binding decorated with flowers, with fitted leather box

8.6 by 5.4cm.

Condition Report:
In good condition, the margins are clean, minor rubbing to the illuminated pages, but overall the colors crisps and vibrant, some minor smudges and stains throughout, the binding's covers with minor crackeleure, the spine and fitted leather box likely later added, as viewed.
