AN ILLUMINATED MINIATURE QUR’AN, TURKEY, OTTOMAN, 18TH CENTURY

Arabic manuscript on paper, 234 leaves plus 4 fly-leaves, 19 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in blue and gold, verses separated by gold dots, surah headings in gold thuluth, fifth and tenth verse marked in gold in the margins, f.2b-3a with a polychrome and gold illuminated frontispiece, in gilt leather binding, each cover decorated with a central panel containing two roses surrounded by scrolls, with flap, some leaves loose, in a later embroidered textile bag

8.7 by 5.5cm.

Condition Report:
In fair condition, the margins are overall clean, the spine of the binding damaged and some leaves loose, the text is possibly incomplete; the final page which names the scribe Nur al-Din and a possible date of 1112 AH (?)/1700-01 AD might be a later replacement, the incipit frame with rubbing and losses and minor repainting, minor restorations to the paper, as viewed.
