AN ILLUMINATED QUR'AN LEAF IN MAGHRIBI SCRIPT, ANDALUSIA, LATE 12TH-13TH CENTURY AD

text: surah al-zumar (XXXIX), end of v.58 to middle of v.60
Arabic manuscript on thick cream paper, 5 lines to the page written in monumental Maghribi script, vocalisation marked with blue and orange dots, fifth verse marked with a large tear-drop medallion enclosing the word khamsa in
the centre, verso with a verse marker in the form of a triangular cluster of three gold dots outlined in blue

leaf: 35.7 by 23.2cm.

Condition Report:
In fair overall condition, various worm holes with associated repair, ink has burned through paper in some areas, one large hole near the bottom as a result, paper repairs to corners, ink generally bold and illumination bright, as viewed.
