AN ILLUMINATED QUR’AN, NORTH INDIA, KASHMIR, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

Arabic manuscript on paper, 272 leaves plus 2 fly-leaves, 17 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink within clouds against a gold ground, ruled with a scroll of interlacing flowers against a gold ground, verses separated by pointed gold roundels, surah headings in white against a gold ground within cartouches, gold and polychrome verse markers in the margins, f.1b and f.2a with a double-page illuminated frontispiece, six additional double-page illuminated spreads marking each manzil, f.271b and f.272a with a finispiece bifolium, in lacquer binding decorated with flowers

20 by 13cm.

Condition Report:
In general good condition, the margins are clean, minor stains and smudges to the text, minor holes and occasional restorations, the double pages are in good condition with crisp colors, some pages foliated at the beginning of the text with Arabic numbers, minor scratches to the bindings, as viewed.
