An impressive illuminated Qur'an, Qajar Persia, dated 1286AH (1869AD) Arabic manuscript on paper, xxff., plus one flyleaf, each folio with 12ll. of black naskh script, the initial bifolio of indices, the subsequent bifolio of preparatory prayer, and the opening bifolio sumptuously illuminated in burnished gold and fine polychromes, the indices with a grid of eight-sided stars alternately in green, blue, red, and gold, within a scrolling gold border highlighted with blue and red flowerheads, the following three folios with interlinear Persian translations in nasta’liq script in red, horizontal gold rules and gold cloudbands throughout, in red, blue, gold, and black rules, margins of gold scrolling floral repeats, catchwords, red vocalisation marks, gold rosette verse markers, black diacritic marks, chapter headings in red within polychrome and burnished gold horizontal cartouches, marginal markers in gold and polychrome sunbursts containing words in red, signed Ibn Ibrahim Abdul Ali Al Tabrizi, dated 1286AH (1869), in fine lacquer binding of the iconic Qajar gul o bulbul (flower and nightingale) motif on shimmering gold ground, within an oval border of scrolling gold motifs on black, the interior of plain red lacquer within a narrow band of repeating gold decoration, the folio 28.2cm x 18.5cm, the text panel 19.5cm x 11.6cm.Click here to share:Please login or create an account to view/request condition reports
