AN ITALIAN GILTWOOD TABLE ROME, MID 18TH CENTURY The verde antico top with Sienna border, the frieze carved with sea creatures and trailing oak leaves, the legs headed with masks above a conforming stretcher headed with a mask 97cm high, 98cm wide, 51cm deep Provenance: Antichità Alberto di Castro, Rome A Town House in Mayfair, Christie's London, where purchased by 20 November 2008, lot 545 Condition Report: Overall in good clean condition and structurally secure. There are the inevitable minor dents marks and scratches due to age and use, some minor constructional shrinkage cracks as to be expected. There is an old repair to the marble top, a break front to back which has been secured with inset and glued splints, the repair is almost imperceptible on the visible surfaces. There are visible joins to the sienna marble edging where it was applied in short sections. There are areas of scuffing to the gilding, occasionally revealing the red bole beneath, some white spots of gesso visible. The frieze swags repaired and reattached but otherwise the carving all appears intact and well preserved. Condition Report Disclaimer
