Note: During the Song Dynasty, the subjects / themes for jade carvings tend to be naturalistic, i.e. inspired from the observation of the nature, this under the influence of the contemporary paintings. Two major themes are them developed: the Autumn Mountains depicting deers and stags amidst rocks; the Spring Water depicting birds such as wild geese amidst a lotus pond. Our plaque, intricately carved with a phoenix in a lotus pond, is inspired from these Chunshui µÿà µ⠬⠦.
