Attributed to Giuseppe Parvis (1831-1909), Cairo, Egypt, second half 19th century
Of typical shape, resting on three rounded feet, rising to a circular table top, the bracket legs with mashrabiya-style globular openwork grid rising to thin tubular shafts surmounted by two-tone horse-shoe arches inspired by Hispano-Moresque buildings, geometric bands inlaid with mother-of-pearl, ivory and coloured woods tesserae, in the centre a ringed shaft culminating in an onion-shaped finial, the style and design in line with the Hispano-Moresque and Egyptian revival creations of the Italian cabinet maker and carpenter Giuseppe Parvis, 111cm x 45cm.
