AN ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR RENDERING OF A MANGELS GALLERY

[ translate ]

The original late 1930s ink wash rendering of a William Mangels shooting gallery. The insightful rendering provides an insight as to the intent and the actual composition of a Mangels design. Many of the targets in this auction can be seen here as they were intended to appear visually to the buying public, possibly on Coney Island where Mangels got hs start and later based his operations. Row upon row of spinners, the ducks and birds on conveyors, large rotating discs slowly turning at three different points for visual effect, rows of concentric ring bullseyes and the articulated clown with outstretched arms - all of these can be found in the Tucker collection. Only a very few original illustrations of Mangels galleries are known to exist, this example is numbered #58A.

Pictured in Sellers' book on page 129 (Figure 8.39).

Sheet measures 14.5 x 15 with an overall frame size of 20.5 x 20 inches.

We happily provide seamless in-house packing and shipping services on nearly everything we sell.
Condition Report: Apparently the condition is very good. There are no visible issues of damage, repair, stain, discoloration or trimming. There is one corner bump. This work has not been examined outside the frame.
